Empowering Veterans: UES Partners with SkillBridge to Enhance Career Opportunities

The transition from military service to civilian life is a journey filled with both opportunities and challenges, especially in today’s rapidly changing job market. Our service members bring a unique skill set, discipline, and dedication acquired during their time in uniform, but many struggle to find suitable career opportunities that leverage their talents effectively. Recognizing this gap, UES has taken proactive steps to support veterans by partnering with SkillBridge. SkillBridge, a program sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD), connects active service members with training, apprenticeships, or internships during their last 180 days of service. It offers skill assessments, job matching, resume building, interview coaching, and ongoing support to ease the transition from military to civilian life.

By joining forces with SkillBridge, UES is creating a bridge to meaningful career opportunities for veterans. Beth Scheitzach, Director of Training and Development at UES, spearheaded the partnership with SkillBridge and works with branches to design training plans for SkillBridge participants, based on the specific branch’s workforce needs.

UES appointed Todd Griffith as our dedicated Regional Recruiter for veterans. With over 15 years of experience in talent acquisition and HR, Todd has led numerous SkillBridge initiatives, creating a robust pipeline of talented professionals from transitioning service members. Todd’s dedication extends beyond recruiting – he has coordinated workshops and provided presentations to over 10,000 candidates at various military installations and educational institutions.

Our partnership with SkillBridge is already making a difference. Don Pedro Silva, our first SkillBridge participant, began his internship with the UES Las Vegas branch on February 5, 2024, and successfully completed the program on May 5, 2024. During his internship, Pedro completed the ICC Commercial Building Inspector certification program and passed the exam.

Pedro’s journey with UES was marked by his exceptional dedication and positive attitude. He participated in an instructor-led program on Commercial Building Inspections, job shadowing, visited sites, and other training opportunities. With two years of welding experience, Pedro is now working towards achieving his Certified Welding Inspector (ICW) certification. Pedro’s success highlights the impact of the SkillBridge program and the dedicated support from UES.

At UES, we are committed to supporting our veterans as they transition to civilian careers. Our partnership with SkillBridge and the efforts of dedicated professionals demonstrate our unwavering commitment to empowering service members with the tools, training, and opportunities they need to succeed. We look forward to welcoming more veterans to UES and helping them build rewarding careers that leverage their unique skills and experiences. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our veterans and contribute to a stronger, more diverse workforce. Learn more about UES’ SkillBridge Partnership.
