Edgecore Mesa Data Center

This 1.25 million square foot campus located in Mesa, Arizona includes seven data halls, staging and storage areas adjacent to loading docks, and secure site entry. The first of the seven data halls is complete and totals 178,252 sq ft with an adjoining 20,000 sq ft of office and associated space.

The two-story building, located on the southwest corner of the campus closest to the main entrance, has 32 MW of critical load capacity. This project is LEED certified Silver.

The 48-megawatt, 550,000 square foot data center will double the size of the Phoenix campus with a 9-acre expansion to support customer demand. A two-phase development plan is underway, with an initial delivery of 24 megawatts.

Tropical Distribution Center 4

The UES Las Vegas team provided geotechnical recommendations, construction materials testing, and special inspections for the fourth building at the 120-acre, 1.6 million SF Tropical Distribution Center in North Las Vegas. The building is a new warehouse constructed with tilt-up panels and totals 246,400 SF of Class A industrial space with
convenient access to I-15 and 215 via Tropical Parkway. The building has 36-foot clear heights with 43 dock-high doors and two grade-level doors.

The construction also included a large truck court with 51 trailer parking spaces and parking for an additional 203 automobiles. Our services included geotechnical exploration and recommendations, review of the plans for conformance with that guidance, QAA Special Inspections for grading/soils, reinforced concrete, structural steel, epoxy and mechanical anchors, wood construction, and floor flatness/levelness. The UES team also provided field density testing and observations during on- and off-site improvements such as utility backfill operations, curb, gutter, and sidewalks.

CyrusOne Building 4

CyrusOne, Building 4

Phase 1 of CyrusOne’s Building 4 consists of 120,000 square feet and will provide 9 megawatts of generator power with 80,000 square feet of data center space. Building 4 is one of seven buildings that will make up the 1,000,000 square feet master planned facility in Chandler, Arizona.

When finished, the campus will deliver up to 100 megawatts of power to serve enterprises in the Western U.S., making it one of the largest and most energy efficient data centers in the country.

UES provided construction materials testing services for this project along with buildings 1,2,3,7, and 8. The total project includes 13 buildings in Phase 1 totaling 5.5 million square feet.

Stream’s Phoenix campus includes the first of five planned facilities, beginning with a 418,200 square foot hyperscale data center on 157 acres of land. The phase 1 facility will support 40+ MW of critical load, now available with an internal 4.5 MW of capacity. At full build, the entire campus will support up to 2 million square feet of data center facilities and 200 MW of critical load.

UES provided special inspections for the site development and construction of a 202,500 square foot concrete tilt-up building built on conventional foundations of continuous footings and isolated footings, with slab on grade.

Building 7 is just one structure in the 3,000-acre manufacturing, distribution, and logistics development which will include 13 buildings in Phase 1 totaling 5.5 million square feet.

Hyundai Motor Group Vehicle Battery Plant

In one of the largest economic development projects in Georgia’s history, Hyundai Motor Group and SK On (a lithium-ion battery producer) is beginning to build an electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in Kingston, GA, (northwest of Atlanta) set to open in 2025.

The 600-acre site requires an approximate total of 10.2 million cubic yards of material (soil, rip rock, blast rock) to be moved during this project with an aggressive schedule of approximately 10 months for earthwork.

Contour, a UES company, is providing soil testing and earthwork observation, rock verification and quantification of rock discovered during mass grading, settlement monitoring, and NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) monitoring.

As the demand for the delivery of goods to consumers increases, so does the requirement to expand the distribution network. As a result, FedEx expanded their distribution network with a new 250,000-sf, tilt-up panel facility in the Montgomery, AL, area. 

Carmichael Engineering, a UES company, began providing geotechnical services for this project in the spring of 2021 with the construction of the project beginning in the fall of 2021 with a “fast track” schedule. Carmichael Engineering serviced this project with construction materials testing and geotechnical consulting services throughout the construction phase. The primary challenge for this project was the 275,000 cubic yards of “borrow” material that had to be hauled in from an off-site borrow pit within the five-month requirement during the late fall and early winter months. This required extended hours for hauling and placing fill material.
