Symphony Park is located on the historic Union Pacific Railroad Yard (UPRR). For approximately 90 years, the UPRR operated its maintenance and fueling at this location, causing contamination of the soil and groundwater to the UPRR site and downtown Las Vegas from a variety of contaminants. This Phase I ESA included an extensive file review of records through the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) and of the Soil and Groundwater Management documents created for the Symphony Park location. The Aspen Heights project area was determined to be historically located in the area of the former maintenance yard with a fuel pipeline shown in maps to travel through the project area, along the tracks. The current usage of the site was a parking lot for the Smith Center for the Performing Arts. A Recognized Environmental Condition (REC) was determined in the Phase I ESA for the known historic contamination of the site.
