I-49 Alignment

The Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton & Wyatt team, a UES Company, are currently at work on the new alignment for I-49 from Alma to Fort Smith, AR for client HNTB / ARDOT. Work began in 2021, with completion expected in 2025. The team is providing more than $4 million in geotechnical engineering, drilling, and laboratory testing with a scope of ±338 borings / 15,105 lin ft.

The future I-49 alignment extends between Highway 22 and Interstate 40, approximately 13.7 miles and will connect Highway 22 in Sebastian County to the Interstate 40 and Interstate 49 interchange in Crawford County. The southern end of the alignment will extend over the Arkansas River to Hwy. 22 in Barling, Sebastian County, Arkansas. The project will consist of bridges and roadway designed and constructed to interstate standards.
