This project consisted of the construction of a seven-level, multi-purpose facility/arena with approximately 750,000 SF, approximately 20,000 seats, and at least 40 suites. The Amway Center occupies 8.75 acres in downtown Orlando and is now home to the Orlando Magic. The arena includes an NBA basketball capacity of 18,500 and 20,000 NCAA basketball seating. It also features four concourses with 56 suites and 66 skyboxes with seating for 316. The project included the construction of an attached parking garage connected to the Center complex by a pedestrian sky bridge.
The Amway Center features a modern mix of metal and glass exterior materials with a 120-foot-tall glass tower. The tower, with a unique tower club and observation deck at the top, is programmed with assorted lighting elements to allow for its character to change via variations in color and intensity. Amenities include a spacious public entry plaza, concourses with concessions, and a bar that will overlook the event floor. Construction had a duration of approximately 20 months.
UES provided all threshold inspection services for this multi-purpose civic construction project and exceeded the City’s “blueprint” goals of 24% of minority firm participation. Inspections included all structural elements, walls, stairs, window and door framing, concrete slabs, rebar, structural steel and welds, and masonry.
